ROSSENDALE SUMMER RACE LEAGUE JULY 11TH 2010
Twelve SKIART racers took part in the race, with many of them being placed in the top teams for the head to head races in the afternoon. Again, 3 of the top 4 racers were racing for SKIART, whilst the 4th racer, although he was ski-ing for another race team, is also a SkIART coached racer.
CHILL FACTORE FUN RACE JULY 10TH 2010
Matthew M and Sophie enjoyed a day at Chill Factore taking part in the Fun Race. Matthew completed an excellent 1st run and then missed a gate on the 2nd run resulting in a small hike back up the slope. Nevertheless, he finished in 3rd place and made it to the semi-finals in the head to head races in the afternoon. In her first snow races, Sophie had an argument with the same pole on both runs, loosing a ski in the process. However, in the head to head races in the afternoon, she found her pace and managed to win her first 2 races.
INTER-REGIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP 27TH JULY 2010
Our 3 regional skiers joined the rest of the North West team on Sunday to race against other regions. Although they didn’t progress beyond the first round, it was exciting watching some of the fastest skiers in the Country.
GLOUCESTER CLUB NATIONAL 26TH JULY 2010
A good team turn out for the Gloucester Club National. Abigail B, Matthew B, Sophie O and Matthew M raced along with over 180 other skiers on a very hot day in the beautiful countryside of Gloucester. Sophie O and Abigail B came 8th and 15th in their age group respectively, whilst Matthew B came 16th in his very competitive age group. Matthew M started the day off well, lying in 6th place before the final run. However, he fell at the final post on the last run, thus rendering him disqualified!
WEST MIDLANDS GRAND PRIX 20TH JUNE 2010
Fathers day 2010 and West Midlands Ski Association hold their Grand Prix at the Chill Factore. Matthew M was the only Ski Art competitor out of 150 taking to the slope. Todays single pole courses were set by the North West’s very own Olympian David Ryding and Benn Hall of Newcastle University. As you would expect from an olympic skier, Dave’s course was very technical. Matthew managed to complete both courses faultlessly moving from 13th to 10th of a field of 26 in his age group. The next challenge for our team members are the Club National and Inter Regional event at Gloucester next weekend.
TELFORD CLUB NATIONAL JUNE 19TH 2010
Another early morning and another race. Fortunately Telford decided to hold their club national at the Chill Factore. Matthew M and Daniel S braved the colder climates of indoor racing and tackled the single pole slalom course set by Carl Ryding. Matthew did well on his first run, finishing the last 2 gates on 1 ski almost after having a wobble in the final stages, but skied out on the second run. Dan did well on the first run, albeit being very wobbly in the verticale and decided to do some mountaineering on the 2nd run, skiing out but climbing up the course again to complete with a time. The highlight of the day was watching David Ryding ski as a fore runner and then meeting him later in the day.

Changes to seed points seed-points.xlsxROSSENDALE SUMMER RACE LEAGUE JUNE 13TH 2010 It was good to see some new faces at the June Summer Race League at Rossendale. The numbers were low, probably due to exams and Club National Races taking place at the same time, but all skiers enjoyed the racing. Ski Art had 9 members racing, with 3 - Matt B, Matt M and Will G - being in the top 4. The competetive side came out in all of them, particularly when they raced each other in the head to head races.
CHILL FACTORE SUMMER RACE JUNE 12THDan S and Matt M enjoyed a day on the snow at Chill Factore, coming 5th and 6th in their age category. STOKE FUN RACE JUNE 5TH 2010 Matthew M and Sophie O represented SKI ART at the Stoke Fun Race in June 2010. They both skied very well and both came away with a silver medal in their age group. Sophie was the 2nd fastest girl and Matthew was the 4th fastest boy. Well done to them both.
PENDLE CLUB NATIONAL AND GRAND PRIX - MAY 29TH/30THTwo team members braved the wet and windy weather of Pendle Ski Club this weekend to take part in the Club National and Grand Prix. In the Club National, Matthew M. did a good first run with a spectacular finish which resulted in him sliding across the finish line on his back and managing to limbo beneath the timing beam. Despite this he got a very good time. On his second run, he again did a spectacular fall and was disqualified. As a result of this he was more cautious on his third run and came 8th in JN1 category. Daniel S. managed to get tangled with the first gate and was disqualified on his first run, but finished his second and third runs with good times, finishing 7th in CH2 category. Both racers stayed after the racing to take part in the North West team trials. After spending 9 hours in the wind and rain, both skiers went home wet and exhausted but exhilarated after a full days ski-ing.Matthew M. returned the following day to take part in the Grand Prix. The warm up consisted of chasing gazeebos across Pendle Hill as the strength of the wind managed to demolish shelters erected by parents who were still wet from the previous day. Once the racing started, Matthew M. did an excellent first run, but was disqualified in the 2nd run when he missed a gate.
STOKE AND MIDLAND CLUB NATIONALS - MAY 15TH/16TH
Our younger race team members have been busy competing recently. The English Indoor Championships and British Indoor Championships took place at the Chill Factore, Manchester on 24th and 25th April 2010. Matthew B. and Matthew M. took part in both these races. The Stoke then Midland Club Nationals were hosted at Stoke ski slope on 15th and 16th May respectively with Matthew B., Abi B., Matthew M. and Daniel S. racing for the club. Last weekend saw the start of the Celtic Cup series held at our home slope under blisteringly hot conditions with the above members being joined by Sophie O. Sophie was successful in securing a 3rd place in her age group on Saturday. Fun Races As well as the serious racing, some of our skiers have been taking part in fun races. Matthew M. went to Stoke fun race series on 10th April and came 1st in his age group and 3rd overall. A broken arm, sustained during a training session, resulted in him missing the next race, but he is hopeful for a podium finish in the series. Our home fun race commenced on 9th May with some good skiing by most of our club members. The skiers made a good start to the summer season and we wish them all the best for the forthcoming events.
